“Art in the Streets” Exhibit @ MOCA in 2011

The director of LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art, Jeffrey Deitch, has confirmed a massive exhibit for 2011 that will be the first major museum collection on the history of graffiti and street art in the United States.

Art in the Streets endeavors to illuminate a very wide sweep of global street art from the 1970’s to present day, with a focus on the legacy of Los Angeles in the genre, from cholo graffiti to skate culture-inspired work.

Artists featured will be Michel Basquiat, Blu, Banksy, Martha Cooper, Shepard Fairey, Stelios Faitakis, Futura, Phil Frost, Keith Haring, Margaret Kilgallen, Lady Pink, Swoon and over 100 more. Over two dozen artists will be asked to create major installations or murals for the exhibit, which plans to debut in April 2011.

This high-profile street culture exhibition will no doubt draw scores of young people to the museum for the accessible, avant-garde nature of the artwork. Art in the Streets will be the museum exhibit that everyone is talking about in 2011 and beyond.
